Jack Waltershied Completes Apprentice Training Program

Local Truckee High School Graduate Completes Apprentice Program

Congratulations to Jack Waltershied, the first graduate of the newly created technician apprentice program at Quality Automotive Servicing in Truckee, California.

At the age of 16, Jack was hired at Quality Automotive Servicing as a shop assistant. The team at Quality saw that Jack was smart, personable and with training would be a great addition to the team.

When Jack showed interest in automotive repair as a career and was making plans for study beyond high school, Quality Automotive Servicing saw an opportunity to develop an apprenticeship program. QAS helped with Jack's enrollment in the Technician Training program at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) and he became Quality's first apprentice.

The QAS apprentice program combines college and hands-on training to develop young adults toward successful careers in the industry.  The combination of high-level course work in Automotive Technology at TMCC (Truckee Meadows Community College) and vital hands-on experience and mentorship at Quality, qualifies Jack for many opportunities in the automotive repair industry. Fortunately, Jack loves his job and enjoys the fun and supportive culture of QAS and will continue to be part of the technician team.

“We are proud of Jack and his aspirations. We know he will have success in the automotive repair industry,” Gary Gunter, General Manager of Quality Automotive Servicing.

The apprenticeship program is part of the culture at QAS which is supporting community in various ways.  Coined  Full Circle Community Support (FCCS), Quality Automotive believes in volunteerism, mentoring, donations and action to support a thriving community. The apprentice program is an example of how the owners and team at Quality "go the distance".

Quality Automotive Servicing Announces Newest Apprentice

Quality Automotive Servicing is excited to announce that Moira Gion is the new QAS apprentice technician working in the shop and taking coursework at TMCC. Moira is an exceptional illustration of the Quality Automotive's Full Circle Community Support commitment. “Being community minded goes beyond making a donation to a local sports team,” states Sheila Greeno, QAS co-owner. “We are thrilled to support Moira in exploring this career direction and excited about her ambitions.”

Women In The Automotive Repair Industry

Quality Automotive Servicing is a woman-owned-business so it’s no surprise that women are encouraged to find career paths in the industry.  As a leader in hiring and promoting women, QAS now has three front-line female team members and a female apprentice technician.  Check out this blog on the hard working gals at Quality Automotive Servicing https://www.qualityautomotiveservicing.comblog/women-helping-women-with-their-auto-maintenance-needs

Hiring & Mentoring a Local Workforce

If you’ve read this far, you recognize that this local shop is committed to Truckee and the community.  I guess you can say also that they also believe in “shopping” local. At present 1/2 of the team members are Truckee born and raised, graduates of Truckee High School.  Offering professional development and career advancement for workers in Truckee extends to the entire QAS team and is a key component of Full Circle Community Support. Expanding on this mission, the shop recently introduced a summer internship opportunity for a local high school student interested in learning more about a career in the automotive repair industry.

According to Quality Automotive Servicing, practicing Full Circle Community Support is the key component to their business success. Being involved in community through actively meeting the people and organizations that make Truckee such a special place to live and then taking action where you can.  Bill & Sheila Greeno, business owners and 35 years residents encourage others to think big and discover new ways to give back.
